I love summer. A lot. And I love getting out on adventures- big and small, near and far – with my kids.

Who’s excited to know a bit more about our contributor, Shauna? Well, it’s her chance to dish on the “early years” in this week’s installment of Friday Fun Facts! Grab your coffee {or tea} and take a peek.
Despite being sadly situated in the doldrums of winter (this particular winter being no exception), February is one of my favourite months of the year.
It’s my birthday month (and yes, I completely milk the concept of birthday MONTH).
I also have a soft spot for Valentine’s Day since it marks the first date I had with my husband 15 years ago. Not to mention that a holiday about loving others can only be a good thing for this world.
In recent years, I’ve taken the theme of “self-care” for the month of February. I use it as motivation (or maybe an excuse) to do some of the things that I usually put off in the name of Mothering or Scheduling or the Crazy Fast Pace of Life. It’s the month I am intentional about making hair appointments, waxing, pedicures, etc.
I’m a fresh start kind of girl. I’ll look for any and every fresh start there might be.
A new week? Check!
A new year? Definitely!
A new month? Yep, that counts too.
A new season? You better believe it!
A new morning? Absolutely. And quite possibly, the most important fresh start of all.
As a household, we get excited for Christmas, we grab hold of events and traditions, we bake, we sing, we watch our favourite movies.
This year I’ve been trying extra hard to keep things simple and our schedule more open than past years.
I also want to try a few “retro” activities like simply driving around in pajamas to look at lights. Maybe build a classic gingerbread house. Some sledding. That kind of stuff.
I’m trying to avoid the bustle a bit.
As the weeks quickly pass and the Christmas season nears, it’s important to slow down.
Stop even.
It’s time to be intentional. With your energy, your focus, your time, and your resources.
We’ve put together a list of links to help you do just that. Things to consider during this special season of Advent.
