It might seem like an obvious choice for February, but you can’t beat Ylang Ylang for enhancing the romantic mood. It’s main purpose is to relax the mind and help with balancing emotions. So of course, “good” things can come from that! Ylang Ylang can be combined with a variety of other oils in the diffuser to Set The Mood, create your Happy Place, or add a little Sweet Love to your days. You’ll be able to find each diffuser recipe on a handy, downloadable recipe card at the end of the post. You might notice a theme with these… one oil that pairs really well with Ylang Ylang is Orange oil! Start with those two and experiment from there. You’re sure to find a combo that speaks to your senses.

I recently did some experimenting with fresh rose petals to concoct my very own rose water and some romantic Rose Petal Bath Soak. The rose water was only a partial success. It’s certainly easy to make, but I think the important thing that I was missing {and will seek out next time} are good quality roses. I have a feeling the ones I used leftover from flower arrangements from commercial florists might not have been the best option. Nonetheless, I did make a nice eye-makeup remover combining avocado oil and a touch of rose water.
The Rose Petal Bath Soak turned out lovely & I have been enjoying that {and so has my skin}. It’s pretty straightforward to mix, but a couple of notes to help you. You can simply make this bath soak using dried roses {I purchased mine here}. If using fresh rose petals, grind them in a food processor first. Also, fresh rose petal bath soak should be used within 3-4 weeks. I’ve written the recipe up so that you can make a large enough batch to gift jars of it to friends for Valentine’s Day!
Rose Petal Bath Soak
{Makes 4 – 250 ml jars}
- 2 cups Epsom Salts
- 6 drops Ylang Ylang Oil
- 4 drops German Chamomile Oil
- 4 drops Cardamom Oil
- 6 drops Orange Oil
- Coconut Milk Powder
- Rose Petals
Mix above ingredients thoroughly. In a 250 ml jar, place 1/2 cup of the Epsom Salt mixture. Add 1/4 cup of Coconut Milk Powder and 1/4 cup of Rose Petals {dried or fresh}. Let sit in jar for 1-2 days before use, so oils and scents infuse. Scoop into bath as water fills. Take a deep breath & relax!
