Living With Essential Oils: March Pick - Begamot Oil

The snow is still falling in Calgary as I type and, although tiny hints of spring are in the air, we’re still struggling to stay positive about this whole winter thing. I find Bergamot oil interesting because you really get to enjoy the unique qualities of it depending on what other oil you pair it with. In general, it is described as having a sweet, citrus scent. If you pair it with an oil like Geranium, the sweetness of Bergamot is drawn out. Whereas, if you pair it with Orange oil, the citrus scent of Bergamot is more predominant. It’s a bit hard to describe. I encourage you to play around with it and see what I mean.

So what exactly is Bergamot good for? It has lots of uses, from skin care to digestive relief to helping with cough & cold. It’s derived from the peel of bergamot oranges {which I have yet to taste}. Interesting fact: about half of all women’s perfumes contain Bergamot essential oil. So maybe the versatility of it’s scent isn’t just all in my own head.

I use Bergamot in our staple bathroom spray, my daily winter toner, and loads of diffuser recipes! Here’s my favourite oils to pair it with: Orange, Lemon, Geranium, Lemongrass, Eucalyptus, and Stress Away. To help you get inspired to use Bergamot, we’ve put together a few diffuser recipes! Download for FREE and keep handy near your diffuser!
