In the Studio: Room Makeover - Sewing Room Makeover

Back in January, I started my sewing room makeover. Well, not just a makeover, an entire move. My studio space was originally in the extra bedroom on our main floor, but as we make space in our world for a future adoption & my craft business changes, it became necessary to move it into the basement. Finally getting around to sharing some of the process and the “after”.

Yep, that was the basement space “before” I dove into fixing it up. I had my work cut out for me, including learning how to drywall. I knew there was potential for a sweet space, I’d just been a bit spoiled with my old studio.

Disclaimer – I have never done drywall before. After watching a great YouTube series called Up To Kode, I gathered supplies & tools and was all set to tackle the job. Highly recommend Kody’s “Drywall for Beginners” if you’ve never done drywall before or are interested in some good tips every step of the way! Watching his videos took off the nervousness I was feeling around this project.

Once the drywall was all done, it was just a matter of painting and hanging cupboards. I decided to “spruce up” my desk area bit by painting the desktop.

Here’s my mostly done “After” photo. Everything is moved in now and back to looking like the typical mess associated with my sewing room! I did do a lot of purging, and reduced my craft stash & supplies. That was honestly the hardest part of this project. So many memories & craft intentions connected with my collected supplies. Lots of supplies from my mom and mother-in-law, but of whom are passed now. That always makes it harder to let go. But I did. As much as I could.

Of course, the button collection stayed intact! No way would I part with that. Even found a great spot to keep the rainbow collection of jars on display.

Looking forward to some more creative time in my new space {once we get through this busy, busy spring/summer on the farm}!
